What is a vaporizer?

A Vaporizer (vape (n), vaping (v)) is a device for inhaling blends without combustion. Most vaporizers are electronic and use a battery to heat an element. The idea is to heat the compartment to the temperature at which it will vaporize your blend without reaching the temperature required for combustion. Some vaporizers have exposed elements which may cause a small amount of combustion, these vaporizers are usually manual and require you to hold the button down for a certain length of time. This allows good control but can take some practice. Other vaporizers allow you to set a temperature and it will keep the compartment at that temperature.

Getting started : What you need

Most beginners will want to start with a complete kit. These all include a complete vaporizer and most come with accessories. The great thing about kits is that you can be assured all the parts will match and work together well. If you are more experienced or want to jump straight into it, you can mix and match the parts yourself to make the perfect vaporizer, and this guide will help you.

The main components of a vaporizer are the battery and the attachment. Attachments themselves usually break down into multiple pieces to allow easy servicing and cleaning, and some parts are replaceable such as the coil head and mouthpiece on some models.

The main thing to consider is the type of attachments that will suit your needs - will you be using e-liquids or dried herbs for instance? All of our products contain clear descriptions but if you find yourself unsure about a particular combination please feel free to contact us through our contact page for advice and we will respond usually within a couple of hours.

What do VV and VW mean?

Variable Voltage and Variable Wattage. Some batteries and mods will allow you to adjust these and this can change the amount of vapor the unit produces. Setting the voltage too high with some attachments may result in a burnt taste, but it allows the user greater control over the Vaporizer and with some experimentation can result in a greater experience.

What is a Mod?

Mods are simply larger batteries. They are considered a step up from the slim eGo batteries and generally they are bigger and have more features.

Battery Thread types : 510 vs eGo

eGo and 510 are the 2 main thread types used on Vaporizer batteries, mods and attachments.

This image shows a typical eGo battery. All eGo batteries have both threads making them an ideal choice for beginners as they will work with all attachements. Most 510 threaded attachments include an adaptor to hide the eGo thread while they are attached.

Mods on the other hand will usually have only the 510 thread, and the larger attachments tend to use this thread. Adaptors are available to use eGo attachments with Mods.

If you are unsure about a particular combination, please feel free to ask us for advice through the contact page.

What type of attachments are available?

The main attachments are called Atomizers, Clearomizers and Cartomizers. All attachments for dry herbs are atomizers, but atomizers are also available for liquids and some models can use both with little or no adjustment.

Atomizers are one of the original devices. They have a fairly small capacity and are best for people who prefer dripping. There are different design but majority of atomizers have a heating coil on the bottom with metal mesh on top of the coil. Some atomizers utilize silica wick instead of metal mesh

Cartomizers are similar in design to the atomizer. The big difference is that cartomizers have polyfill wrapped around a heating coil. A polyfill soaks e-juice and allows for longer vape time over atomizer. There are some designs of cartomizers that are housed inside a larger cylindrical tank that holds even larger capacity of e-juice.

Clearomizers are one of the newest and most popular devices on the market. These type of devices are usually cylindrical and feature a clear polycarbonate plastic or pyrex glass tank. A clear tank allows you to see the level of e-juice inside of a clearomizer. E-juice is delivered to the heating coil by ways of a silica wick. Some designs feature top heating coil with longer wicks, others have bottom placed heating coil with short wicks which allows for easier wick saturation.

Do all Easy Vape vaporizers include a New Zealand plug?

Legally, anything sold in New Zealand must have a New Zealand plug. Where necessary, we will remove the original foreign adaptor before shipping the unit to you. Most of our units charge via a USB cable so this is no issue, but any units that require a mains adaptor will come with a suitable replacement that meets New Zealand requirements.

What are the ongoing costs?

This really depends on the model you have selected, and how it is looked after. Attachments will last longer if they are kept clean. Most parts can easily last hundreds of uses such as the battery which can last at least 300 charges with most batteries lasting for a whole day with frequent use. Some parts need to be replaced regularly however such as the coil or filters. Most kits will includes spare coils because of this, and replacements are available in our Spare parts section.
